London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
Airport Information

(London, England)

Currently the third-busiest international airport on the planet in terms of passenger traffic, London Heathrow International Airport (LHR) is just 19 km / lhrest of central London, next to Hounslow, Longford and West Drayton. Heathrow Airport boasts two long runways, both of which measure more than 3,660 metres / 12,000 feet, along with a total of five terminals.

Built to handle around 45 million passengers a year, London Heathrow Airport has become over stretched and is almost bursting at the seams, currently serving some 70 million passengers. This equates to around 200,000 passengers every single day. Aa new fifth airport terminal opened in early 2008 and came with a capacity of a further 30 million annual passengers - this terminal literally transformed Heathrow overnight. The fifth terminal operates independently and instantly became one of the biggest UK airports in its own right.

London Heathrow International Airport is close to the M3, M4 and M25, and is therefore easy to reach by road. Underground trains, buses and a number of coaches are also on hand, transporting passengers into central London and nearby cities and towns, such as Guildford, Leatherhead, Staines, Windsor and Woking.

About London Tourism

London's number one airport is used by tourists and businessmen from around the world to reach this famous city. Those arriving to sightsee will not be disappointed, with top attractions such as Buckingham Palace, the Tate Britain Gallery, Hyde Park, St. Paul's Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. When it comes to looking for hotels in the capital, it is not necessary to stay in the centre, since most accommodation is only a short tube ride or taxi journey away from your chosen destination for the day. If you are planning to stay for a while, then consider one of the many London apartments available for rental, with a number of trendy and coveted loft-style options proudly overlooking the River Thames and Tower Bridge.

Heathrow Airport (LHR) is close to the M25 motorway and apart from London, is well connected to Camberley, Guildford, Reading, Slough and Watford.
